Galicia Biodays’, the reference forum for the biotech industry in the European Atlantic Area, organized by Bioga, will be held in Vigo on June 12th and 13th.
The international meeting will receive more than 1,000 attendees and has already scheduled 600 meetings for life sciences sector players to generate business and develop new projects.

Vigo is the capital of biotechnology. “And it is so because this city and its surroundings have an indisputable entrepreneurial and industrial character, here were born and developed some of the most relevant biotechnology projects of the national scene and also here the hybridization between biotechnology and other strategic sectors happens naturally”. This is highlighted by José Manuel López Vilariño, president of the Clúster Tecnolóxico Empresarial das Ciencias da Vida (Bioga). In addition, Vigo reaffirms this biotechnology capital by hosting Galicia Biodays, the reference forum for the biotechnology and Life Sciences industry in the European Atlantic Area organized by Bioga, at the Mar de Vigo Auditorium on June 12 and 13. “Vigo and Galicia Biodays will generate an ideal environment for the biotechnology sector to establish contacts and synergies, generate business, develop new projects and get in touch with investors and customers,” said José Manuel López Vilariño during the presentation of Galicia Biodays today in the auditorium of the Consorcio de la Zona Franca de Vigo. The presentation ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero; the Regional Minister of Education, Science, Universities and Vocational Training, Román Rodríguez; and the State delegate in the Vigo Free Trade Zone Consortium, David Regades.

Galicia Biodays focuses on the Galician community, one of the leading areas in bioentrepreneurship

It leads, for example, strategic areas for biotechnology such as drug development, functional food, personalized medicine or marine resources. The biotech event in Vigo will address, among others, issues such as drug development, innovation in food and cosmetics, entrepreneurship and financing of strategic projects and internationalization. Also, in Vigo will be carried out a reverse trade mission with reference bioregions such as Canada, Portugal, France, United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, India and Morocco. This delegation will also know the laboratories of Porto do Molle, which promotes Consorcio Zona Franca de Vigo, and facilities of reference companies in the area of Vigo and O Porriño.

What does Galicia Biodays offer?

It is an event for businessmen, managers, entrepreneurs, investors, researchers, academics and public administrations who want to learn about new business models, experiences to develop and implement in their companies and current trends in biotechnological innovation. The event also promotes networking and business generation. More than 600 one-to-one meetings are planned. And this meeting, for example, will be attended by representatives of large corporations such as Total Energies-Corbion, Almirall, Cantabria Labs, Vicky Foods and Faes Farma. They are multinationals that put their focus, their point of view in Galicia.

There will be, among others, Yves P. Auberson, executive director of Global Discovery Chemistry at Novartis; Joaquín del Río, director of Innovation and Quality at Vicky Foods; Andrés Fernández; director of Zendal; David Regades, State delegate in the Vigo Free Trade Zone Consortium (CZFV); Luis Serrano Pubul, director of the Center for Genomic Regulation (CRG); Isabel Amat, global director of Innovation and Project Management at Reig Jofre; Begoña Pérez Villareal, director of EIT Food South; Jenifer Mitjà, Bioplastics/PLA Applications specialist at Total Energies Corbión; Nuria Morales, co-founder of Komvida; Thalía González, head of Cosmetic Innovation at Cantabria Labs.

Institutional representatives will include Teresa Riesgo, secretary general for Innovation of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities; Raquel Yotti, commissioner for Strategic Projects for Economic Recovery and Transformation (PERTE) for Vanguard Health of the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities; Jordi Carbonell, commissioner for the Agri-Food PERTE of the Ministry of Industry and Tourism; and Alex Dorado Nájera, commissioner for the Circular Economy of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.

For their part, the three universities of Galicia (Universidade de Santiago de Compostela, Universidade da Coruña and Universidade de Vigo) will also be present to promote the transfer of knowledge and the generation of new cutting-edge projects that place Galicia at the forefront. Biotechnological innovation has an impact on strategic economic sectors for Galicia, such as agri-food, health, cosmetics and marine. Galicia Biodays managed to attract leading entities in these fields to develop business and collaborative projects.

Within the framework of Galicia Biodays, the X Bio Investor Program will be held, in which 32 projects seeking funding will participate. In front of them they will have 25 entities or investment funds. Bioga and DATAlife join forces to attract the main national investors in the biotech field and related sectors, which complement existing initiatives in Galicia to invest in science driven by Unirisco or Bio&Tech Smart Capital.

Galicia Biodays will also host the II BioTalent Program. There will participate more than 100 profiles in search of a professional opportunity and more than twelve Galician biotech companies with active processes to incorporate talent to their organizations. They will try to promote and put into practice the connection between the demand and supply of employment and favor the retention and attraction of talent.
